Julia Adamson

Part-time Groom

Julia Adamson is a retired Deputy SENCO and Safeguarding Lead at Secondary School level, who is a mother to three adult children and has been horse mad since the age of five!

When Julia took early retirement, she wanted to find a role that would allow her to use her SEN experience and knowledge and continue making a difference. RDA provided the perfect opportunity to combine this desire with her passion for horses!

Julia has been involved with RDA for two years now, starting out as a volunteer, and is currently working towards her coaching qualifications. When the role of part-time groom came up at Belvoir Vale RDA, Julia jumped at the chance to look after the centre’s gorgeous ponies and horses.

Julia says, “I feel incredibly privileged to play a small part in the lives of our riders and their families. Seeing those small steps of progression from meeting a pony for the first time to then building those trusting relationships with our coaches and volunteers, which enables participants to experience the joy of either riding on a pony during their session or spending time grooming or leading a pony – It puts a huge smile on my face every week.”
