It’s widely recognized that riding offers significant therapeutic benefits. It aids mobility, core strength and balance, improves general fitness and health and provides an opportunity to make friends and grow in confidence, whilst staying active.
At Belvoir Vale RDA we offer individual or group based riding sessions for disabled riders throughout the week and weekends.
Participants can ride in our new indoor arena, which allows for year round riding with a viewing gallery, disabled lift access for horse riding and a therapy room where we have Roma, our horse simulator.
There is also an outdoor arena that offers views of our beautiful facilities and the local countryside, with tracks around the 27 acre site for hacking and carriage driving.
We have great facilities that offer great flexibility and ensure we are not dependent on the British weather!

Thanks to an incredibly generous, and anonymous, donation Belvoir Vale RDA is lucky to have a mechanical horse on site – Roma The Second! The simulator is housed in the aptly named ‘Romatherapy Room’ located within the Indoor Arena complex.
This cutting-edge facility, offers participants a safe and versatile way to experience the joys of horse riding. Whether it’s building confidence, improving balance, or mastering riding techniques, the simulator provides a controlled environment tailored to individual needs. It’s a perfect stepping stone for riders who might feel nervous about getting on a live horse or need a supportive introduction to riding.
The simulator helps develop core strength, posture and coordination, making it an excellent resource for physical therapy. It also allows participants to focus on specific skills without the unpredictability of a live horse, creating a focused and productive learning experience. It’s realistic movements ensure that riders gain an authentic feel for riding, all while staying in a comfortable, indoor space.
We are really excited to now offer Carriage Driving sessions. Carriage Driving offers an alternative equine experience, with all the benefits of riding – improved coordination and balance as well as confidence building. It can be relaxing or more exhilarating, depending on what you fancy! Either way, you can ride in our indoor or outdoor arenas or enjoy the stunning scenery as you ride on our bespoke tracks that meander through our 27 acre site in the lush Nottinghamshire countryside.

We also offer Hippotherapy at Belvoir Vale RDA – a modality that involves using the movement of the horse as a physio-therapeutic or rehabilitative treatment. This can help with posture, assist in normalization of muscle tone, improve upper limb control, dexterity and balance, as well as encouraging communication and participation. We are able to offer this activity as we have a specialist RDA and Hippotherapy Coach based at Belvoir Vale RDA in Jennie Wilkinson who is also the North Midlands Regional RDA Physiotherapist.

Riding horses or Carriage Driving is not for everyone, which is why we also offer a range of non-ridden activities that still offer incredible health and wellbeing benefits.
Tea with a pony is a safe, supportive and sensory experience for those with disabilities or long term conditions such as dementia. It encourages alertness and engagement, which can help with memory. We work with local care homes to provide a wonderful experience in a safe, reassuring and fun environment.
Horse care allows visitors to spend quality time with our horses learning all there is to know about equine welfare and grooming. It’s a social activity that promotes physical and emotional wellbeing.
Our Sensory Garden is to be constructed in the near future and is intended to provide a relaxing environment where people can bond and connect with our horses, helping to overcome stress and anxiety, and creating an opportunity to develop trust and empathy. We will call this our “Magic Moments” session.
At Belvoir Vale RDA we’re very proud of the work we do with local Schools that support children with special educational needs and disabilities. We are currently working with several schools, running group sessions during the week that include both ridden and non ridden activities.
If you are a school looking to offer your pupils the health and wellbeing benefits of riding and interacting with horses, then fill in this form to register your interest.
